PLAN your visit
Begin your visit by checking in at the Gift Shop located inside a refurbished 1830s log cabin. The Gift Shop features a variety of local handcrafted gifts and small batch mercantile goods. Credit card payment is encouraged as a touchless payment option. Guests are free to explore the museum campus at their own leisure. Our interactive touchscreens and comprehensive exhibits have been designed to facilitate a self-guided experience based on your personal interests. Scavenger hunts, coloring sheets, and hands-on activities are available inside the museum.

The Georgia Association of Museums has recognized the William Root House for excellence in exhibition theory, planning, and implementation, commending our use of touchscreen technology and also recognizing our interpretation of domestic slavery in the urban south. |
Georgia Grown Agritourism Site
The William Root House is a member of the Georgia Grown Program. The Root House gardens are designed to reflect the gardening practices of the mid-19th century. The gardens are planted with vegetables, medicinal and culinary herbs, fruit trees, decorative flowers, and blooming shrubs. All the plants in the Root House gardens have been researched for availability in Georgia at the time the house was built. Click here to learn more. |
