Internationally acclaimed silhouette artist Clay Rice will be visiting the Root House on December 5th. From his home in Charleston, South Carolina, Clay travels throughout the United States cutting portraits. Silhouette cutting is a Rice family tradition spanning three generations. His work has been featured in Country Living, Southern Living, and Garden and Gun. |
A Digital MuseumThe William Root House is the first house museum in the U.S. to offer a fully self-guided touchscreen tour. The Root House has been recognized by the Georgia Association of Museums for excellence in exhibition theory, planning, and implementation, commending our groundbreaking use of interactive museum technology.

Urban SlaveryThoughtful exhibits, touchscreens, and public art help tell the story of the lives of the enslaved individuals who lived and labored at the Root House property prior to emancipation. Recently discovered family papers and new research into public documents are helping to give us a better understanding of the lives of these enslaved individuals.
